In the future Athena will be taken off the WCPSS school servers and will no longer be supported by Technical Services. It has been replaced by Destiny which is accessed via the web. However, some schools have chosen to use Athena as a database for Leveled Book Rooms, Textbooks and equipment. Athena 9.2 was the last version to be produced and legally bought for each WCPSS school. It can be used in perpetuity. However, someone at each school must be assigned to manage it. There is a Blackboard site called Athena Users' Group which contains all necessary documentation for running Athena.
The following checklist is basic to protection of the database.
Local install only to a workstation or laptop of your choice ( 2 recommended ways)
Copy the Athena folder to the "C" drive of a workstation or laptop of your choice. Create a shortcut to ath.exe in the Athena folder (C:\Athena\ath.exe FULL)
Or install Athena from the install disk (must have the original disk sleeve with the ID number and product number on it or contact Library Media Services). Once Athena is installed, go to System Admin, choose "Restore" and select the most recent ath.zip backup file.
External backup required because hard drives can be reimaged and/or crash. Multiple backups in multiple places is recommended.
